BOOTS

Thank you for this site, I have been hoping to find somewhere to talk about my dog Boot's, she was a 10 year old maltese/cocker mix, when we first got her she fit in the palm of my hand, so small we could not take her for walks in the snow so wherever we went she traveled in the sleeve of my coat until she got bigger. She was officially my daughters dog, at the time my daughter was eight years old, but I rapidly lost my heart to this little dog, she was a joy for the whole time she was with us, never hurt anyone, never bit or snapped at any one, the only thing she didn't like was water, once when we went to the coast and took her down to the sea, she tried to find a way to walk around it, did not like to get her feet wet. In November 2000 she suddenly got sick and was diagnosed with liver cancer, at first we put her on chemotherapy, but the vet said she had only 2 weeks to live so we took her off that as it was making her very sick and we started giving her flax oil daily, she recovered quite quickly and we had 6 more months of quality time with her and truly we thought we had the cancer beaten, then just 4 days ago she stopped eating, her tummy swelled up and she had trouble walking, it was time and she knew it, on the 23rd of May, yesterday, I took her for one last walk only she couldn't, so I put her in my jacket like I used to when she was a pup and we went for one last walk, it was like she knew, we sat with her all day in the sunshine and at 5-30pm the vet came, she didn't suffer, the pain that she had known for the last couple of days went away and she passed away in my arms, I am still crying, the hardest time for me is when I go home and she does not run out to greet me, time will heal, I know, but it hurts to be without her and I just wanted the world to know what a great dog she was and just how amazing it was for such a little dog to have so much love in her heart, I thank God for letting me and my family have her, even if it was for only 10 years, sweet dreams babe, Poppa loves you.
